Family Vacation Ideas: Beaches
Family Vacation Ideas: Beaches
It’s finally starting to warm up, which means thoughts of a summer vacation are probably dancing around your head. If you and your family are beach lovers, there are plenty of places to go that offer entertainment for all ages. Here, our Pittsburgh Airport parking company shares some of our family favorites:
St. Augustine Beach, Florida
If your children like history, the city of St. Augustine is the oldest European settlement in the country and full of unique Spanish influences (from monuments to restaurants). And when it comes to the beach, you’ll find four acres of beachfront park where you can splash around or just enjoy the Florida sun.
Virginia Beach, Virginia
With so much to do, Virginia Beach has long been a favorite beach destination for families. After some swimming or boogie boarding, take a walk down the three-mile boardwalk and discover the many shops, amusement rides, and sweet treats. The kids can even enjoy Grommet Island Beach Park, made just for kids.
Coronado Central Beach, California
What makes this beach fun for kids is the fact that the sand is full of a sparkly mineral called mica. They’ll love building sand castles and taking in the sights of the historic beach mansions. Plus, beacuse it’s so close to San Diego, there’s plenty to do in the city.
The Outer Banks, North Carolina
Like Virginia Beach, the Outer Banks has been a hot spot for family beach vacations for years. With beautiful weather, windsurfing and wildlife-watching opportunities, and 3,000 shipwrecks (yes, 3,000) you can explore, the chain of islands is a great location for the entire family.
Assateague Island National Seashore, Maryland
What’s better than a beautiful Maryland beach? A beautiful Maryland beach that also happens to be a protected wildlife sanctuary. Nearly 38 miles long, Assateague Island is full of dolphins, whitetail and sika deer, red foxes, an abundance of birds, and most importantly – stunning wild ponies that roam the beaches.
Sanibel Island, Florida
Off the west coast of Florida outside of Fort Myers sits an island with beautiful, calm waters and a beach filled with seashells and sand dollars that will keep children occupied for hours. Sanibel Island is a great place for a family that wants to get away, relax, and simply enjoy the quaint surroundings of island life.
Poipu Beach Park, Hawaii
While you really can’t go wrong with any beach in Hawaii, Kauai’s Poipu Beach Park is unique because it offers snorkeling, swimming, surfing, a natural ocean wading pool for little ones, and even a playground. Plus, who doesn’t love picnicking underneath the shade of beautiful Hawaiian palm trees?
Coney Island, New York
What says “summer family fun” more than Coney Island? We’re not sure; the iconic area at the southern tip of Brooklyn dates back to the 1830s and has been loved by people of all ages since then. If features a boardkwalk with shops, restuarants, games, and a variety of amusement rides, as well as a three-mile-long beach complete with lifeguards, restrooms, and showers.
