15 Packing Tips Every Traveler Should Know

Pittsburgh Airport Parking

Everyone loves a getaway, but not everyone loves packing. In fact, for some travelers, packing is the worst part of the trip. At our Pittsburgh Airport parking company, we understand – that’s why we’re here with some helpful tips that can make packing less stressful and make your next trip go smoother:

1. Lay a dryer sheet in between each layer of clothing. This will keep your clothes smelling fresh and will reduce wrinkles.
2. Instead of folding your clothes, roll them. You’ll save space and will be able to fit more into your suitcase.
3. Start your packing list early and add to it as you think of things to bring. Then, cross off your belongings as you pack them.
3. If you’re bringing a checked bag and a carry-on, pack your toiletries and an extra outfit (including socks and underwear) in your carry-on in case your checked luggage gets lost.
4. Take advantage of the negative space inside shoes for extra packing room. Shoe openings are great for packing socks or other small items.
5. If you’re a frequent flier (like many of our Pittsburgh Airport parking customers), keep a ready-to-go toiletries bag on hand. This way, you can just toss it in your luggage and go.
6. Pack lightly by choosing outfits that can be mixed and matched or easily transition from daytime to nighttime.
7. Once you decide what you’re going to pack, choose your bulkiest items (think coats, boots, sweatpants, etc.) to wear on the plane. This way, you can free up more room in your suitcase.
8. Pack a light shawl – it doesn’t take up much room and can come in handy as a hat, a blanket, a way to protect something fragile, a wrap, or even a bag.
9. Don’t forget to pack entertainment for the flight. Bring your laptop, tablet, a book, music, a journal, or something else to pass the time.
10. If you’re not planning on doing wash on the road, pack a laundry bag so you can keep your dirty clothes separate from your clean ones.
11. Leave some space in your suitcase so you can bring home things like souvenirs or purchases.
12. Don’t forget to pack plenty of hand sanitizer. Traveling brings lots of germs, from the airport to the airplane to the hotel and more.
13. Our Pittsburgh Airport parking members have learned to call the hotel to see if they have larger items like a hair dryer or an iron before you pack them.
14. Pack a pair of earplugs or noise-canceling headphones. You never know when you’re going to come across a crying baby, a loud talker, and other unpleasant sounds.
15. Stash a few plastic grocery bags in your suitcase for things like wet bathing suits or muddy shoes.

Do you have any other packing tips you’d like to add to our list? We’d love to hear them!
